Why did he tell me he was going on vacation?

I text this guy i like james and i said what are you doing. and he called me back and said i just got you text and he said he and a couple of his friends are going down to fort lauderdale for a few days and he said its going to be a long drive and he asked what i was doing and i said i was at work. were just friends so why did he tell me this?
