Tips about pain after dental suction?

I had to get a root c and crown on Monday its Friday. I can't take pain meds and I was wondering what can I do? The dentist t kept stabbing the back of my throat with the suction. He also had to cut away gum tissue for crown to fit, but the most pain is from when she used the dental suction, it really hurts to swallow... Any ideas?
